COMMANDER THERESA A. LEWIS

Executive Officer, Recruit Training Command

Commander Theresa A. Lewis was born in Lakewood, Ohio and grew up in Livermore, California.   She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis Maryland in May 1989 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Political Science and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy. 

Commander Lewis’ assignment’s include:  the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C., as the New Accessions Detailer for the General Unrestricted Line Community where she received her subspecialty in Manpower Systems Analysis and Management;  assignment to the White House as the Director of White House Television and as a Unit Commander for the Director, White House Military Office, serving under former Presidents Bush and Clinton and was responsible for documenting the President’s Activities on videotape for the Presidential Archives;   Administrative Officer for U.S. Navy Support Facility, Diego Garcia; Executive Officer at the Military Sealift Command Office, Port Canaveral, Florida; Fleet Aviation Manpower Officer, Manpower Analyst, and Assistant Fleet Personnel Distribution Officer and Joint Exercise and Operations Manning Coordinator, Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  Prior to her current assignment as Executive Officer, Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, she served as the Deputy Division Chief, Joint Staff Support Services Office, Director of Management and Joint Staff Deputy Inspector General at the Pentagon in Washington DC  from April 2006 to June 2009.    

Commander Lewis’ Command tours include Commanding Officer, Military Sealift Command Office, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from July 2001 to July 2003, and Commanding Officer, Honolulu Military Entrance Processing Station from July 2003 to January 2006.

Commander Lewis earned a Masters of Science Degree in Management with subspecialty in transportation from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California in March 1995.  In June 2006, she graduated with distinction from the Navy War College with a Masters in National Security and Strategic Studies.  Her professional military education includes the Command Leadership School, the Navy War College Seminar Program, and the Joint Combined Warfare School at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia.  Commander Lewis also has her certification as a Department of Defense Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt. 

Commander Lewis’ awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and several unit and service awards.

She is married to Jim Rosenthal, USMC (Ret).
