Check-in/Travel to OTC
If Flying:
please make your way to the ground transportation in the baggage claim area. The following link has the available options to acquire transportation to Officer Training Command (OTC) Newport http://www.pvdairport.com/main.aspx?sec_id=59.
"The airport is 22 miles from the base. Airport based taxis will not be able to deliver you past the front gate. There are taxi companies that can drive on base, such as, Orange, Cozy, and City Cab Company.
In this instance, please contact the OTC Command Duty Officer (CDO) and ask if the Command Duty Driver is available to pick up and transport you to the command. Since the command only has one duty driver, this may not be available, and you may have to walk to the designated location. The Command Duty Officer contact number is 401-862-4321.
**Every attempt should be made to fly into TF Green Airport. Students flown into Boston, MA will need to take a taxi to Naval Station Newport, which is extremely expensive, and will then be reimbursed with submission of a receipt. A rental car from the airport is not authorized unless specifically stated in your military orders.
If driving to Naval Station Newport, please use Google/yahoo or MapQuest and use the following as the destination address: 291 Kollmeyer St. Newport RI 02841. This will take you to King Hall (Bldg 291) via Gate 1 (Front Gate).
Officer Development School, LDO/CWO, NSI and DCO
Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian attire on the Sunday closest to your report date before 2000. You will need to report to King Hall, Building 291 Quarter Deck. Your orders will be stamped, and you will be directed to your quarters and given information concerning expectations for that first day.
You should NOT arrive prior to the Friday before your class convening date before 1600 unless specific arrangements have been made with the OTC Staff. Classes graduate on Fridays and accommodations will not be available until after 1600. Classes begin Monday morning, and all students must be checked in on Sunday prior to 2000. Your orders may state times between 1600 Friday to 2400 Sunday prior to the class start date. Officer Development School does not start until 2000 on Sunday evening prior to class convening date. As long as you report by 2000 on that Sunday evening, you will be within regulations. If you are going to be later than this, please contact the OTC Staff via the “Contact Class Officer” link in the school house information section or contact the Command Duty Officer.
If you do come in prior to 1600 the Friday before, you can find lodging information at the bottom of the page.
Officer Candidate School (OCS)
Upon arrival to OTC, check-in wearing appropriate civilian attire on the Sunday closest to your report date before 0900. Ask the Base Security for directions for OCS check-in and follow posted signs that read "OCS Arrivals". This will take you to the OCS Seawall or to Kay Hall, depending on the season or weather conditions. Designated parking will be provided.
If arriving in Newport prior to the Sunday report date, you will need to make your own lodging accommodations as Officer Candidate School does not have the capability to house students prior to the designated report date. The Combined Bachelors Quarters (CBQ) or Newport Chalet are on base and can be used as lodging, or Newport has numerous hotels within close proximity to the base. Ensure you maintain all receipts as this expense is reimbursable.
