A native a Frederick, Maryland, Lieutenant Cline enlisted in the Navy in June, 1988, just weeks after graduating from Middletown High School. After completion of the Basic Course of Instruction at the Navy School of Music at Little Creek, Virginia, he was assigned as a trombone instrumentalist with Navy Band Memphis, Tennessee. In 1992, he transferred to Navy Band Great Lakes, Illinois, where he served as Leader of the Brass Quintet, Public Affairs Assistant, and Drum Major. He was selected in 1994 as the Naval Training Center (Simplex) Sailor of the Year.

In 1995, he returned to the Navy School of Music for advanced training. After completing the Section Leader Course, he reported to the U. S. ATLANTIC Fleet Band in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as Drum Major, Leading Petty Officer, Fiscal/Supply Petty Officer, and Leader of the Brass Quintet. He also served with the U.S. Navy Showband, where he toured extensively throughout Africa and South America in support of WATC-96 and UNITAS-37. During this tour, he was selected Sailor of the Year for Calendar Years 1997 and 1998.

Following this assignment, he returned to the Navy School of Music for more advanced training, where he successfully completed the Ceremonial Conductor and Drum Major Course and Enlisted Bandleader Course.

On May 1, 2001 he was commissioned a Limited Duty Officer Bandmaster, and was promoted to the rank of Ensign, U. S. Navy. After completion of Limited Duty Officer /Chief Warrant Officer Indoctrination School in Pensacola, Florida, in May 2001, he was assigned as the Assistant Director of the United States Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland. In 2003, he reported as Director, Navy Band Mid-South in Millington, Tennessee. In July 2006, he assumed his duties as the Fleet Bandmaster, SEVENTH Fleet Band.

Lieutenant Cline assumed his present duties as Director, Navy Band Great Lakes in October of 2008. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards), and Navy Good Conduct Medal (3 awards).
Master Chief Musician John F. Wowk hails from Bartlett, Tennessee, and is the Senior Enlisted Leader/Assistant Director of Navy Band Great Lakes. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Tennessee Technological University. After enlisting in 1981, MUCM Wowk attended MU "A" School in Little Creek, Virginia and was stationed at Navy Band Great Lakes in Illinois following graduation. Serving as saxophonist and clarinetist, his duty stations include Navy Band Guam, Navy Band Memphis in Tennessee, SEVENTH Fleet Band in Yokosuka, Japan, and Navy Band Northeast in Newport, Rhode Island. While in Newport, he attended the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy. MUCM Wowk has also completed the Intermediate and Enlisted Bandleader/Assistant Director Course at the School of Music in Little Creek, Virginia.

In October 2001, Master Chief Wowk transferred to Navy Personnel Command (BUPERS) in Milllington, TN where he served as the Detailer for the Navy Music Program Management Division (PERS-64). In April 2002, MUCM Wowk was promoted to his current rank. While stationed at BUPERS, he obtained a Masters in Science Degree in Operations Management with a certificate in Human Resources from the University of Arkansas. After successfully completing his tour with Navy Personnel Command, Master Chief Wowk transferred to Navy Band Great Lakes where he assumed his current duty as Senior Enlisted Leader/Assistant Director.
